Foot length is the length of foot On's chart gives for each size, measured from heel to longest toe. For On it's approximate: On's Japanese size minus 1 cm, as explained below. Inches are converted from centimetres.

How On sizes its shoes

On's charts give US, UK, EU and Japanese sizes, but no foot length. On's sizing FAQ says to measure your foot and add about 1 centimetre to get the Japanese size, so we work backwards: foot length is roughly the Japanese size minus 1 cm. That makes On the one brand on this site where foot lengths are approximate.

On men's UK sizes are the US size minus half a size, and women's UK sizes are the US size minus 2. On's FAQ says women's sizes are men's + 1.5, though its own Japanese sizes line up more closely with a one size gap. Fit notes also change by model: one recent Cloudmonster page recommends half a size down while the next version says true to size, so read the product page for the model you're buying. On says its men's shoes are designed wider than women's, and selected styles come in a wide fit.

On men's and women's sizes

By foot length on On's own charts, a On women's US 8 matches a men's US 7, and a men's US 9 matches a women's US 10. Because the converter works through foot length, it uses On's own charts rather than a general rule, so you can trust it for switching between On's men's and women's shoes.

Does On run small or large?

By its chart, On links each size to a shorter foot than most brands: a men's US 9 is for a foot of about 26 cm, against a typical 26.8 cm across the 13 brands we cover. So the same foot often needs a bigger On number. For example, a 27 cm foot is a On men's US 10 and a Nike men's US 10. Fit also depends on the model, so check the product page too.
