How Nike sizes its shoes
Nike's men's and women's charts are separate, and women's US sizes are men's US + 1.5, so a women's 8 is a men's 6.5. Nike's UK numbers are where it gets confusing: on the women's chart, UK is the women's US size minus 2.5, so a women's UK size doesn't always match the men's UK size for the same EU number. Always read the chart for the gender of the shoe you're buying.
Nike's charts also have a column labelled CM/JP. That's a Japanese shoe size, not your foot length, and Nike says so on its chart; the foot length is the separate inch figure, which is what we use. Nike also notes that its wide versions add about a quarter inch of room around the toe box and extra wide about half an inch.
Nike men's and women's sizes
By foot length on Nike's own charts, a Nike women's US 8 matches a men's US 7, and a men's US 9 matches a women's US 10. Because the converter works through foot length, it uses Nike's own charts rather than a general rule, so you can trust it for switching between Nike's men's and women's shoes.
Does Nike run small or large?
By its chart, Nike links each size to a shorter foot than most brands: a men's US 9 is for a foot of about 26.2 cm, against a typical 26.8 cm across the 13 brands we cover. Tips for buying Nike shoes
- Measure both feet in the evening and use the longer one, as Nike advises.
- If you're between two sizes, Nike suggests the larger.
- If your feet are wide, look for a Wide version of the model before sizing up in length.
How to measure your foot
